Teacher Bio

Cindy Carraway-Wilson, Nationally Certified Pilates Teacher, Certified Peak Pilates Instructor, Certified Buff Bones® Instructor, and Certified YUR Back Teacher®

Cindy Wilson grew up in a small town in Pennsylvania and has always been physically active. Several years after moving to Brunswick, she discovered Midcoast Pilates Studio while looking for a different exercise routine. Cindy started practicing Pilates in March of 2010 in a Beginner Mat class with Jan Anderson. Yes, it’s Jan’s fault! She was immediately addicted to the mind-body experience of Pilates. Cindy practices Pilates at Midcoast Pilates Studio on the mat and apparatus as often as she can with the goal of always pushing beyond her current level.

Cindy is a Nationally Certified Pilates Teacher (NCPT), and  Comprehensively Certified through Peak Pilates. She completed her Comprehensive Certification through Peak Pilates with Clare Dunphy, second generation Romana trained master trainer, on  November 25, 2012. She is currently certified through Peak to teach group classes and private clients on the mat and apparatus through the advanced level.

Cindy first chose to get certified as a mat instructor with the encouragement of Jan and Maurine because she loved the impact Pilates had on her body and mind and wanted to share the practice with everyone! Teaching Pilates also fits nicely with her full-time job. Cindy graduated with a Master of Arts degree from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, PA with a concentration in Existential Psychology. Existential Psychology focuses on bringing mental health to the individual as a whole person, rather than simply looking at a problematic part of the person. Pilates fits in with Cindy’s philosophical perspective that true health and wellness must include the mind, body and spirit! She is a professional trainer in the human services field where she teaches skills related to working with young people, organizational development and strategic planning.

Since completing her comprehensive training, Cindy has completed a variety of workshops and certifications to ensure that people of all types, especially those who might be managining injuries or chronic health problems, can safely participate in Pilates. Cindy is certified to teach the Buff Bones method of pilates for pilates enthusiasts who are managing Osteoporosis and Osteopenia. She recently completed certification in the YUR Back method to focus her pilates training for students who are managing back issues such as back pain, herniated disks, and degenerative back issues. Finally, Cindy completed certification to work with students who have been diagnosed with neurological conditions, such as MS.

In addition to her passion for Pilates, Cindy enjoys walking and hiking with her husband, Siberian Husky and Golden Retriever, camping, kayaking, gardening, traveling, maintaining and driving antique and classic cars, and caring for their 1780 Center Hall Colonial home (a true labor of love).

Cindy’s favorite Joe quote: “To achieve the highest accomplishments within the scope of our capabilities in all walks of life we must constantly strive to acquire strong, healthy bodies and develop our minds to the limits of our ability.” ~ Joseph H. Pilates
